Eli Lilly and Co. Inc. said Tuesday it has received more than $4.3 billion in sales of the drug Viagra in the U. S. The company also will launch a version of its popular erectile dysfunction drug called Levitra in the U. on Monday, which will be available for $13.99 for a 30-day supply.
Lilly's Levitra, the generic version of Viagra, is the most widely used drug in the United States, but it has been under fire for some patients because it contains sildenafil, the same active ingredient found in other older erectile dysfunction drugs. Some users reported side effects such as headaches and dizziness.
"The company is committed to continuing to advance Levitra and will continue to work closely with its users to ensure that it is a safe and effective alternative for their erectile dysfunction," said Matthew McPherson, Lilly's medical affairs chief. "This new launch of Levitra will further strengthen Lilly's position as the leading supplier to Viagra, and will help establish a positive environment for patient satisfaction."
Patients will be able to use Levitra by the time the drug is available for U. delivery on Feb. 2.
"We are excited to announce that we have received more than $4.3 billion in sales of the Viagra product in the U. S.," said Paul Clark, Lilly's medical affairs chief. "We believe this launch of Levitra will further strengthen Lilly's position as the leading supplier of Viagra and will help establish a positive environment for patient satisfaction."

Lilly has a new Viagra drug called Pfizer-approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, which is not approved by the U. Food and Drug Administration. Viagra is the most widely used drug in the world.
Pfizer's patent on Viagra was expiring on June 20, 2014, but the drug remains widely available and approved by the U.

"The Viagra launch represents the culmination of years of effort by Pfizer and Lilly to develop a new and effective treatment for erectile dysfunction, and to provide patients with a new, FDA-approved treatment option," said John DeAngelis, Pfizer's president. "This launch of Levitra, the Pfizer-approved version of Viagra, will help ensure that patients with erectile dysfunction are treated with the appropriate medication that is proven safe and effective to treat their condition."

The European Union’s health ministry said on Thursday it will start work on the controversial topic of female sexual arousal, which has been controversial in the US, Europe and elsewhere.
It is not clear what the public expects from this new treatment. The European Union has already approved the first treatment for the condition, which is known as female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD).
A study in the journalSexual Medicinesuggests that the drug has a modest benefit to the overall sexual life, compared with placebo. The study involved patients who had been prescribed a placebo for two months, and then experienced the drug as a treatment, before they were started on the treatment. They were also given a new drug called flibanserin (the active ingredient in Viagra), which acts as a vasodilator.
A USU. S.diabetes drug, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes, has been shown to improve sexual arousal in women. The drug is not approved for women, but women who suffer from the condition need to be tested.
The drug was approved in 2010 for the treatment of moderate-to-severe erectile dysfunction. Its use has been linked to several side effects such as nausea, headaches and flushing of the skin. The drug has also been linked to heart disease.
The European Union has not approved flibanserin in the US, and it is not known whether it is also approved for treating the condition in the UK.
The health ministry’s warning about the drug is that it may cause adverse effects in women, particularly low sex drive and low sexual arousal, and that it may cause sexual dysfunction.
The European Union has also previously suspended use of flibanserin in women.
“We are aware of this issue, and we are in discussions about it,” Dr Kate Whiting, the agency’s health commissioner, toldThe Times. She has said that the agency will continue to monitor the situation closely.
A spokeswoman for the European Commission said that the drugs have been studied and approved for use in women, but the agency has not yet seen the full list of adverse effects.
The European Commission, in a statement, said that the drug has been approved for the treatment of the condition.
“It is not approved for women, but the agency has completed discussions with the drug’s manufacturers on the status of this drug,” the statement said.
The European Commission said that it “would not advise” doctors to continue prescribing flibanserin for the treatment of female sexual arousal disorder.
“It is not approved for women,” it said.
The drug’s manufacturer, Bayer AG, toldthat the FDA has not yet approved the use of the drug for women and that it remains unclear how it will affect women.
In the US, flibanserin was initially marketed under the brand name Addyi, after a French company failed to produce a similar drug, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in April.
The FDA had approved the drug for treating hypoactive sexual desire disorder, which affects a person’s sexual ability and performance. The drug has not been approved for women.
The European Commission said that the drug had been approved for the treatment of the condition, and it had not been seen by the FDA. The agency had previously approved the drug for women to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder.A spokeswoman for the US Department of Health and Human Services said that the agency has not yet approved the use of the drug for the treatment of the condition.
The agency is awaiting the results of a study assessing the drug’s effect on the female sex drive.
“We are committed to working closely with the drug manufacturers to monitor the development of the drug and the safety of women,” she said.
The European Commission also said that the drug could be used to treat women with sexual arousal disorder, but it has not yet approved its use in the US.
“It is not approved for women, but the agency has completed discussions with the drug manufacturers on the status of this drug,” the statement said.
The drug has been approved for use in women and men, but there is a lack of information about its effects on the female sex drive.
